COOTAMUNDRA RUGBY CLUB will host the Women’s 10’s South West Cup Major Semi-Final tomorrow between West Wyalong Redbacks and the Temora Tuskers with the winner to go straight to the grand final for 2025.

The Redbacks have won one and drawn one against the Tuskers this season, having finished on top of the table on 66 points, four clear of their neighbours. Grenfell will play Young in the knock-out minor semi at the same venue on the same day.

For the Redbacks, it is a massive reversal after a tough 2024 as they aim to break an eight year hoodoo and take the 2025 title. They only recently played the Temora side a month ago, smacking the Tuskers 34-17 in a six tries to three demolition job on their own turf after both sides played out a dramatic draw in West Wyalong earlier in the season.

Buoyed by a winning record against their arch rivals, the Redbacks will again look to captains Rebecca Ball and Louise McCabe to lead from the front. Both have had strong seasons as has the whole squad especially star Ava Lemon who bagged a double in the July 5 win over Temora.

Ebony Millgate and partner in crime Phoebe Pursehouse will again be instrumental in everything the Redbacks do and their kicking will be essential if the Redbacks are to qualify for the grand final. Millgate also grabbed a brace in the last up win over the Tuskers and will be hoping to continue that good form into the major semi tomorrow.

Brianna Hanrahan’s goal kicking will be vital for the Redbacks as it was when the two sides drew at West Wyalong in May 19-all. On that day, Hanrahan kicked a double in the three tries a piece stalemate at West Wyalong Rugby Club. She also picked up a try for her troubles that day as well in a game many thought the Redbacks should’ve won.

The focus though is on tomorrow’s winner takes all match however and the Redbacks will be hoping to get another one over Temora and book their spot in the decider.

West Wyalong are all behind you girls!

Kick off is at 1pm with the minor semi-final Grenfell vs Young game to follow thereafter.

Let’s go Redbacks!
