THE West Wyalong Weevils men’s first-grade side were unable to keep pace with a clinical Cootamundra outfit on Saturday, falling 42-21 in a physical Round Three contest.

Despite a spirited effort in front of a home crowd, the Weevils struggled to contain Cootamundra’s attacking flow and paid the price for missed tackles and handling errors at key moments.

Cootamundra capitalised on a strong start, racing out to a 21-7 halftime lead and maintaining control through the second stanza with smart kicking and consistent forward pressure.

The Weevils found moments of promise, with tries from Will Brissett, Myles Harland, and Elex Nasedra. Brissett opened the scoring for the home side with a powerful run through the middle, while Harland’s effort early in the second half gave the Weevils a glimmer of hope. Nasedra added a late consolation try to add some respectability to the score line.

The loss drops West Wyalong down the ladder but the team will look to regroup quickly ahead of the next round.

With the season still in its early stages, the Weevils will be hoping to convert their effort into results - and get their campaign back on track before the season slips away for 2025 along with their finals aspirations.
