IN what can only be called an unprecedented weekend of dominance, the Ungarie Magpies delivered a legendary display across both football and netball, winning every single grand final they contested in the 2025 Northern Riverina Football Netball League (NRFNL).
The club secured five titles across five grades - Under 17s football, and in netball the U16s, C Grade, B Grade, and A Grade - culminating in a feat now being hailed as the ultimate "Clean Swoop!"
17s Football: Magpies Fly Highest
The Under 17s football grand final saw the Magpies defeat Lake Cargelligo in a tight, thrilling encounter, with a final score of 8.2 (50) to 5.11 (41) in favour of Ungarie. It was a gritty performance, where accuracy proved decisive for Lake Cargelligo’s many scoring opportunities ultimately couldn’t translate into enough goals.
Leading the charge was Bobby Bryant (pictured inset top right), voted Best on Ground, for his dynamic presence and pivotal contributions on both ends of the field. Meanwhile, the season’s individual honours went to Harrison Bartholomew (Hillston), who claimed Best & Fairest, and Zahn Norris (Lake Cargelligo), who finished as runner‑up. Their acknowledgment served as a reminder of the fierce competition throughout the year.
Netball: Five Sure Flags
Not to be outdone, the Magpies’ netball teams were equally emphatic across all grades.
Under‑16s (U16s)
The U16s final was a close‑fought affair, ending in Ungarie 51-46 Tullibigeal. With control of the game in the late stages, Ungarie pulled away to clinch the premiership. Olivia Rossiter starred with a commanding showing, earning the MVP accolade. A standout from Tullibigeal, Tahlia McKay, was awarded the U16s Best & Fairest.
B‑Grade & C‑Grade both down Tulli
B Grade and C Grade mirrored the U16s script - Ungarie emerged victorious in each, confirming their supremacy across the ranks and showing the depth at the club on the court.
A‑Grade
In the main grade, Ungarie rose to the occasion again, defeating Hillston to secure the A‑Grade premiership and cap off an incredible weekend that saw them scoop all five available titles.
A Clean Swoop” for the Ages
Rarely has one club swept every grand final across both football and netball in a single weekend. The Magpies’ achievement has fittingly been dubbed “A Clean Swoop” - as one of the most dominant days in Ungarie sports lore.
The seamless success across multiple grades speaks volumes about the depth of talent, coaching, preparation, and club culture permeating the Magpies this season.
Community members have flooded social media and club spaces with admiration, highlighting how such collective triumphs are a testament to grassroots spirit, teamwork, and local pride. It's an accomplishment that will be reminisced for years to come in Ungarie and beyond. Well done Magpies!
