Rinse and repeat for Nats
Same leadership team after strong election result for Nats
MEMBER FOR PARKES, Jamie Chaffey has had his first National’s Party Room meeting since being elected, and as is the precedent after every election, a secret ballot was held for the Leadership team.
“Congratulations to David Littleproud MP on his re-election as Leader, to Kevin Hogan MP on becoming Deputy Leader, and to Senator Bridget McKenzie on her re-election as Leader of the Nationals in the Senate,” Mr. Chaffey said.
Senator Matthew Canavan also put up his hand for the Leadership, and although he was unsuccessful, Chaffey commended him saying “he stood up for what he believes in.”
“Senator Susan McDonald was also unsuccessful in her bid for Deputy Leader but I have no doubt both Matt and Susan will continue to be strong voices in the National’s Party Room”.
“I’m proud to be a member of The National Party, with more than 100yrs of serving regional NSW, and I’m looking forward to getting on with the job and representing the people of the Parkes electorate,” Chaffey concluded.
The Liberal Party also had their ballot this week, with Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, defeating Angus Taylor, the former Shadow Treasurer, (29-25) who along with Peter Dutton, oversaw the LNP’s worst ever election result. At last count the LNP hold only 44 seats to Labor’s 94 in what may take a generation to overturn. Taylor has come under increased scrutiny for opposing tax cuts in the election campaign and for failing to hold the ALP to account on cost of living. Ted O’Brien will be Ley’s new deputy.
