Redbacks keep rolling on!

Redbacks in battle with arch rivals Temora for top spot

By Dane Millerd

A CLUSTER OF SPIDERS: The Redbacks are united and have the team to go all the way in season 2025 after another stirring win.
Minor Premiership a real goal for girls

THE West Wyalong Redbacks have claimed a resounding 36-10 win over fellow finals aspirants Young in Young last weekend.

Led by Ava Lemon and Ebony Millgate - who both bagged doubles. West Wyalong was never threatened in their dominating 26 point win over the Yabbies.

The six tries to two romp, sees the Redbacks hold second on the South West Fuels Women’s 10s competition ladder, behind only Temora who had a last round bye.

The two sides will square off however on Saturday July 5 in Temora in a winner takes all minor premiership battle. With finals in five weeks time, the match up shapes as the biggest game of the season with the winner taking all the momentum into the semi’s.

In other games Grenfell Pink Panthers trounced Boorowa 35-0 in Grenfell to keep a stronghold on third spot. Temora leads on 42 points after a bye, six points clear of West Wyalong on 36 and Grenfell on 26 - five clear of Young.

In the Men’s, West Wyalong had a hard day at the office as their campaign was effectively ended by fourth placed Young Yabbies 83-17. Barring a miracle, the Weevils title drought looks to continue into another season after Young dismantled them.

In a game where everything was on the line, the Weevils were slow out of the blocks and once behind the eight ball, never recovered. The Young juggernaut was too strong upfront and too quick on the flanks - showing the gulf between the sides was far greater than many had assumed after their last tussle was such an arm wrestle.

The Weevils will now need favours from the teams above them as well as ensuring they win too if they are any chance of end of season play.

West Wyalong will next play third placed Cootamundra at home tomorrow Saturday June 28 in a final throw of the dice for 2025. Make sure you get down and cheer them on!
