THE roar of engines, the gleam of chrome, and a day full of fun were on full display last Saturday, 26th April, as the Western Wheelers Car Club hosted its much-loved annual Crooked Mile Car Show at McAlister Oval.
Now over a decade old, the Western Wheelers Car Club has grown into a thriving community with around 50 active members from across the region, including the Bland Shire, Wagga, Albury, Temora, and Griffith. With members ranging in age from their early 20s to late 70s, the club remains united by a shared passion for classic and custom motoring.
An affiliate of both the NSW Historic Motoring Association and the Australian National Drag Racing Association, the Wheelers are an approved club for classic and historic vehicle registration. Members were able to register vehicles over 30 years old for just $50 per year, including a green slip, allowing 60 days of general use along with unlimited participation in club events.
The show had something for everyone. A stunning collection of classic and modified cars and bikes were on display, with trophies awarded to standout entries. Car and bike enthusiasts were encouraged to bring their own vehicles to join in the fun for just $10, offering a great chance to meet fellow motoring lovers.
In addition to the vehicles, there was plenty of entertainment for the whole family. Live music set the mood, while a BBQ, coffee van, ice cream and slushie van, and fairy floss kept everyone fueled up. The kids enjoyed face painting, making it a fun, family-friendly day out. Public entry was by gold coin donation, making it an affordable outing for all.
The Western Wheelers Car Club has been a staple of the local community for over 10 years, regularly hosting club runs to nearby villages and towns, and holding casual BBQs and meetings at their club shed at the airport.
McAlister Oval, just off Creswell Street, served as the vibrant hub of activity last Saturday. Whether you’re a dedicated car enthusiast or simply looking for a great way to spend the day, the Western Wheelers ensured everyone enjoyed the ride.
