McClintock rings up double ton in Maggies loss to Swans
Celebrations tempered by rampant Swans
IT WAS a tough day in the office at Hillston on Saturday, with limited numbers across the grades and a celebration of club legend, Ryan McClintock who celebrated his 200th for the Magpies.
Ryan joins a very exclusive group of club legends who have played 200 games or more in the black and white. It is no small feat for any footballer, especially more so in recent years due to the number of games per draw.
Yet despite the fanfare, Ungarie had their work cut out against the high-flying Swans, who weren’t in the mood to show any sentiment - punishing the Maggies - Hillston 30.26 (206) to Ungarie 7.9 (51). Goals for the black and whites were shared around with J. Roscarel 2, A.Atkins 2, and J. Crofts, H. Roscarel, and A. Batty getting a major each.
Better Players were J Roscarel, H Roscarel, M Collins, A Williams, J Keatley, and A Batty while the Players Player (sponsored by Red Star Insurance) went to Lewis Henley.
Despite the results, the day was all about McClintock.
After playing all his junior football with Ungarie, McClintock started his Senior football career in 2001 at the age of 15. After a cracking season in 2003, he moved to Canberra where he continued to play a high standard of AFL. Always a 'Pie', he played eight seasons and 100+ club games for the Belconnen Magpies, winning Reserve Best & Fairest in his first season with the club in 2004 and again in his last season in 2013.
After returning to Ungarie in 2014, Ryan took on the role of captain/coach from 2015-2017, where he led the Senior team to a premiership in 2015 and finals in the consecutive years. His extensive list of club achievements include -
Seniors B&F – 2017
Seniors B&F Runner-up – 2003, 2014, 2018, 2021, 2022 & 2023
Seniors Most Consistent – 2019
Best Under 20 Player – 2003
Seniors Players Player – 2003
Senior Most Goals - 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024
Senior Premiership Player - 2001, 2015.
A highly skilled, versatile footballer who can play forward, back or in the centre. McClintock has the great ability to lead, inspire and encourage those around him on and off the field, bringing out the best football possible in his teammates.
And while the result didn’t go Ungarie’s way, it was a tremendous day nonetheless for the club as Molly Bryant also rang up 100 games too. Well done to all!
