Mallee Men and Chicks Secure Hard-Fought Victories
The West Wyalong Mallee Men defeated the Hay Magpies 24-16 in Group 20 First Grade action.
Logan Pettit crossed the line for the opening try of the match to set the tone for the home side.
Max Lawson proved to be a standout performer by crossing the chalk twice during the contest.
The scoring effort continued with Flynn Bryant and Oscar Wood both contributing tries to the final tally.
Brandon Jones added two points to the scoreboard with one successful conversion.
This victory moves West Wyalong into sixth position on the ladder with four points and two wins for the season.
The Griffith Waratah Tigers and Yanco Wamoon Hawks currently lead the competition with eight points each.
In the League Tag, the Mallee Chicks continued a high-flying start to the season with a toughly contested 16-10 win against Hay.
This victory ensures the Chicks remain at the top of the ladder as the team to beat in the competition.
The Chicks will look to strengthen the position as ladder leaders this weekend when the team faces the bottom-of-the-table Tullibigeal-Lake Cargelligo United side.
The League Tag clash is scheduled to kick off at 10:00 am this Sunday.
The First Grade Mallee Men will also look to carry momentum into the upcoming game against the Tullibigeal-Lake Cargelligo Sharks.
The Sharks started the season in dominant form by winning their first three games before a loss last week.
