THE WEST WYALONG MALLEE Chicks are into the major semi-final this Sunday against Leeton at Darlington Point football ground in a game that will see the winner progress through to the 2025 Group 20 League Tag Amato Real Estate Premiership grand final.
Spurred on by a loss only a few short weeks ago against Griffith Black and Whites, the Mallee Chicks were out for revenge and prevailed 16-8 in a gritty affair worthy of a decider.
Tries to Kady Amarant and a double to Olivia Downey plus a conversion to go with her brace and a Bree Franklin extra was enough to hold off Griffith on their own turf in a dour contest that could’ve gone either way.
After a loss to the same side not long ago, the Chicks weren’t about to let the same mistake happen again as the side rallied from early pressure from the home side to assert their authority on the contest.
Leilah-Jane Little starred for Griffith with a pair of four-pointers but it wasn’t enough as the Mallee Chicks wouldn’t be denied this time, leaving Exies Oval with a season defining win and a mouth watering clash with high flying Leeton on Sunday.
In the 18’s, the young Mallee Men were gallant but came up short losing to Yenda for the second time in two weeks 30-6 to be eliminated from the 2025 Group 20 U18 – Harold Eckley Cup. Regardless, the boys can be proud of a great season with plenty also getting first grade experience this year and no doubt will be featuring again in 2026. Well done!
