Local students excel at BandLink Riverina workshop
Three talented musicians from West Wyalong Public School recently travelled to Griffith to participate in the BandLink Riverina concert band workshop.

Amelia, Harriet, and Madoc (pictured), accompanied by Mrs Charpentier, joined over 100 student musicians from across the region for the intensive musical event held from March 25 to March 27.
The workshop provided a rare opportunity for students from rural and remote areas to perform within a large-scale concert band setting.
Participants worked closely with professional conductors and tutors from the New South Wales Department of Education’s Art Unit.
Throughout the three-day program, the students mastered a variety of challenging repertoire and focused on advancing their technical skills on their chosen instruments.
The event concluded with a grand finale concert that showcased the progress made by the ensemble.
The performance was attended by parents and representatives from the host school, who observed the significant improvement in the students' musicality and confidence.
Organisers noted that the collaborative environment allowed rural students to experience the depth and complexity of a full concert band, which is often difficult to replicate in smaller local school settings.
Support from the school community played a vital role in the success of the trip.
The school extended its gratitude to the parents who organised transport and accommodation for the students, ensuring they could attend the professional development opportunity in Griffith.
Members of the West Wyalong community expressed pride in the students' dedication to their craft and their commitment to representing the school at a regional level. The skills acquired at BandLink Riverina are expected to benefit the local school music program as the students return to their regular rehearsals.
