First Grade
After not playing the previous weekend, it was great to see First Grade back on the paddock with a full bench. TLU were without the very experienced Jayden Kelly and Michael Mogliotto but still fielded a strong side.
Callan Blackstock opened the score in the 7th minute of first half and Braiden Jones converted to put the Mallee Men in lead 6 – nil. Max Lawson scored again for the Mallee Men in the 13th minute, and the successful conversion made the score 12 – nil.
TLU were down to 12 men when Warren Lloyd was sin binned in the 17th minute and the Mallee Men had most of the possession in this period and had one try disallowed but poor handling let them down.
TLU hit back just before half time with Sinelle Thorpe barging over close to the posts. Eathan Williams converted and they went to the break with the Mallee Men leading 12- 6. In the 51st minute TLU were penalised 40 out from the West Wyalong line and on the second tackle Chris Judd barged over near the posts and Braiden Jones added the extra points to make the score 18 – 6.
At this point TLU were down to 12 men again as Warren Lloydd was sent from the field for the remainder of the game. From the kick off the Mallee Men made good ground and four minutes later Shane Phillips showed great skill weaving past the defence to score under the posts and Braiden Jones converted to put the Mallee Men further ahead 24 – 6.
TLU were still well in the game when Ethan Williams scored then converted his own try to make the score 24-12. With 10 minutes left on the clock the ball went wide to Cruze Louden who beat the defence and ran around to score 15 metres in from sideline. Braiden Jones added the extra points to make the score 30 – 12.
To Their credit TLU threw everything they had at West Wyalong and were rewarded when Taj Thrippleton intercepted the ball from a sloppy pass and scored under the posts. Ethan Williams made it three out of three and take the final score to 30 – 18. Players Player Bobby Jones.
