Jewell has work shortlisted for Cannes
Former local filmmaker, Brian Jewell has capped a memorable month from gaining an honourable mention for his music short film Powdered Milk and Ice Cream at the Oniros Film Festival in New York with a shortlisting for Fields of Green, another music clip at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Jewell, on his Facebook page was ecstatic and said being considered for Cannes “was wonderful news!”

The tale behind Fields of Green (A Soldiers Story), is a captivating one.
In the film "Fields of Green," a poignant story unfolds about a young Australian boy named Brian Jewell, whose dream is to serve his country with honour. Set against the backdrop of an Australian landscape, the film captures Brian's journey from a spirited child to a determined young man, eager to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. However, as fate would have it, circumstances beyond his control threaten to derail his lifelong dream.
As Brian trains rigorously and immerses himself in the military community, his resolve is tested by unforeseen events that bring him back to where it all began. The lush fields of his hometown, once a symbol of hope and promise, now echo the bittersweet reality of his situation. Along the way, Brian learns powerful lessons about courage, sacrifice, and the true meaning of service. "Fields of Green" is a moving narrative that explores the intersection of personal aspiration and the unexpected turns life can take, highlighting the enduring spirit that drives one to serve despite the odds.
And while Cannes maybe calling, Jewell is also busy raising funds for his other feature “Powdered Milk and Ice Cream”, another story inspired by local events. In a touching message shared with supporters of the film, Jewell posted -
“As we embark on this incredible journey to bring "Powder Milk and Ice Cream" to life, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering support you've shown us. Your contributions through our GoFundMe campaign, along with private donations, have been instrumental in getting us this far. However, it's essential to recognise that this is just the beginning of our fundraising initiative.
“Thank you to everyone who has joined us on this journey. Your support means the world to me, and I am excited about the possibility of filming on location in the very place where this story originates. Together, we can make something truly special.”
