Redbacks snare women's union minor premiership

THE REDBACKS and Mallee Chicks will be flying the flag for our respective rugby union and rugby league clubs during the post season after stellar 2025 campaigns from both sides.

For the West Wyalong Redbacks Rugby Union side, the rise to the top has been remarkable considering they won just one game in the 2024 season.

The Redbacks are four points clear of Temora at the top with a bye this weekend ensuring another five points and the first piece of silverware for the year for the side. They beat Boorowa recently 73-10.

Undefeated throughout 2025 with seven wins and a draw, the Redbacks will be chomping at the bit to break the 50 year drought endured by the West Wyalong Rugby Union Club.

The Mallee Chicks meanwhile are also in the finals mix as the season draws to a close and the finals begin.

The Mallee Chicks sit in fourth on 20 points with a healthy 185 point differential and most importantly, six points clear of TLU in fifth. The Chicks have an 8-2 record with five rounds remaining.

They play Yanco this weekend and a win against the last placed Hawkettes and losses for Leeton and Hay could see them snare second spot by the end of the weekend. Good luck!
