Decider for the ages as Redbacks take on Tuskers in Boorowa
Redbacks vs Tuskers grand final
RIVALRIES don’t come much fiercer – or more fitting – than the one set to reignite this Saturday when the West Wyalong Women’s Redbacks face off against the Temora Tuskers in the 2025 South West Cup Women’s 10s Grand Final at Boorowa Rugby Club.
It’s a winner-takes-all decider between two teams who know each other all too well after a fiery season of match ups. Across 2025, the Redbacks and Tuskers have clashed three times – with West Wyalong holding the upper hand thanks to two strong wins and one hard-fought draw. With last year still fresh in Redbacks minds and the Tuskers aiming to add to their dynasty, the grand final promises to be a cracker!
The Redbacks’ dominance began late in the regular season when they travelled to Temora and stunned the Tuskers with a 34-17 trouncing on their home ground – a result that sent shockwaves through the competition and firmly established West Wyalong as title contenders. Until that point, the Tuskers were leading the comp but since then it has been all the Redbacks. Two weeks ago, the Redbacks cemented that status with a clinical 31-22 victory in the major semi-final, booking their grand final ticket while forcing the Tuskers to battle through the preliminary against Grenfell which they won last Saturday. Earlier in the season, the two sides could not be separated in a thrilling 19-all draw – proof that this grand final is anything but predictable however the Redbacks will be brimming with confidence knowing they have done the job on their opponents before.
Key to the Redbacks’ campaign has been their spine of talent. Ava Lemon’s speed and agility out wide has torn defences apart all season, while Brianna Hanrahan brings a powerful mix of skill and smarts to the park. Phoebe Pursehouse, with her tireless work rate and sharp decision-making, has been the engine room behind the Redbacks’ attacking flair all season too. Up front, Bec Ball and veteran Louise McCabe have led admirably all year – setting the tone physically and emotionally for a squad that’s found its rhythm at exactly the right time.
Temora, however, won’t be short on motivation. The Tuskers have had to claw their way back after the semi-final loss and will be itching for redemption against their regional rivals in what is sure to be a bruising and emotional contest.
The Redbacks, though, carry not just momentum – but confidence born from results. Three games, two wins, one draw. They know how to beat the Tuskers, and they’ve done it in Temora. Now, on neutral ground in Boorowa, they have the chance to finish the job and bring home South West Cup glory.
All roads lead to Boorowa this Saturday. One game, one trophy, one champion. Let the battle begin. Go Redbacks - we are all behind you!
