2025 National Champions - West Wyalong High School Aerobics team win gold with outstanding performance!
WWHS top of the nation after win in Hobart

WEST WYALONG High School is celebrating a remarkable achievement after its Stage 3 aerobics team claimed gold at the National Aerobics Championships in Hobart last month.
The journey began earlier this year when both the school’s Stage 1 and Stage 3 teams secured gold at the State Championships, earning them the right to represent their school — and their state — on the national stage. Since February, the students have been training twice a week, through school holidays and with extra sessions in the lead-up to Nationals, driven by determination and team spirit.
The Stage 1 team, made up of mostly younger students competing at Nationals for the very first time, hit the floor bright and early at 9:30am. Despite nerves, illness, and the weight of the occasion, they powered through their routine to achieve a highly respectable score of 71.95 and 6th place in Australia. Their effort was considered a fantastic learning experience and a strong foundation for future success.
For the Stage 3 team, the stakes were higher. Having competed in Stage 2 in previous years, they had narrowly missed the podium in the past. This year, they stepped up to Stage 3 — a more demanding level that requires teams to choreograph much of the routine themselves. The added challenge, however, proved to be the making of them.
When the Stage 3 girls finally took the stage at 5:45pm after a long day of waiting, they performed with precision, energy, and confidence, delivering their strongest routine of the year. Hours later, at the final medal ceremony of the championships, tension filled the room as the results were read out. The competition was fierce, and the team knew they had given it everything, but the announcement still took their breath away: gold medalists, with an outstanding score of 86.55. What followed was an eruption of joy — tears, cheers, hugs, and a celebration that will be remembered for years to come. For the athletes, it was the ultimate reward for months of dedication, sacrifice, and teamwork, and for the school, it was a historic triumph on the national stage.
Both Sherrie Clemson and Caitlin Reid, who volunteered their time to keep the aerobics program running, were extremely proud of the teams’ efforts. They praised the resilience, teamwork, and persistence that had carried the girls through months of preparation and intense competition.
The success was made possible by the support of the wider school community. Parents and students rallied together to raise funds for the trip, with generous donations from the local community, ensuring the girls could travel and compete. Beyond the competition, the trip created lasting memories, from team bonding, plane rides, a scenic bus ride, museum tours and to the rare sight of snow on Hobart’s Mount Wellington.
While only one gold medal came home from Nationals, the achievement is being celebrated across the school. For Stage 1, it marks the beginning of a promising journey, and for Stage 3, it is the reward for years of persistence, creativity, and growth.
