THE West Wyalong Rugby League Football Club proudly celebrated some incredible milestones of some of the Mallee Chicks finest at Ron Crowe Oval last Sunday.
They kicked off by celebrating the amazing achievements of one of their co-captains and flagship players, Caitlyn Kelly, who began her League Tag journey with the Mallee Chicks in 2011 and on Sunday ran out for her 200th game in the red and black.
Caitie has consistently been one of the Mallee Chicks stars, having scored a total of 204 tries, contributing to phenomenal total of 816 points on the scoreboard, despite taking a well-earned break to welcome her son, Alby.
A proud member of the 2013 Premiership team, Caitie shared that win alongside her sister Bree and cousin Ashley Blackstock, making it a true family affair. She has done it all since her career started. Best & Fairest for West Wyalong, Best & Fairest Group 20, Most Tries Group 20, Group 20 Representative, Group 20 Five Eighth of the year, Grand Final Winner. Caitie continues to lead from the front with her trademark passion and skill as she guides our 2025 Mallee Chicks team as co-captain/coach.
Also joining the prestigious 200 club was Kady Amarant who crossed the line against Darlington Point the previous weekend to seal her milestone moment – what an achievement! Janae Downey, with only one season behind her has already racked up 100 career points following her performance against the Waratahs – an exciting young talent with a bright future ahead.
The Mallee Chicks went on to defeat Yanco on Sunday 62-nil. Tryscorers: Caitlyn Kelly, Ava Lemon, Kady Amarant, Charlee Jones , Makayla Cooper, Janae Downey , Elliane Reynolds, Olivia Downey, Kayla Edwards. Goals: Bree Franklin and Janae Downey.
First Grade were back on the field with a full side. Unfortunately, despite showing a lot of team spirit they found the Yanco big front rowers a real challenge and went down 56-6. Dylan McCartney scored their only try and Callan Blackstock converted. They travel to Hay next weekend and are looking forward to an improved performance. Go get ‘em boys!
